Education resources continue to grow and adapt to meet the changing needs of the Students & Community within Santa Monica.
The growing pains of Covid-19 Pandemic’s impact on learning will fuel studies for years to come. Certainly, every family will have stories to share of successful approaches vs. approaches less productive. But one thing is certain. There was never an option for Education to stop.
In the roughly 12 weeks since SoCal schools of every grade level followed Governor Gavin Newsome’s stay-at-home order, hundreds of thousands of students, parents, partners, spouses, kids and teachers have found themselves swimming in uncharted waters.
Students pre-school and primary through senior high; college undergrads through specialty degrees and PhDs; all had to accept ambiguity and uncertainty as a long-term pop quiz. Teachers, professors, aids and administrators quickly shifted strategies from classroom- to online-based methods and technology. Parents and caregivers were thrust into roll of tutor, teacher, and secretary.

SMMUSD regularly boasts a graduation rate of about 95%, with the majority of students moving forward with post-secondary education options. Many students graduate and move on to Santa Monica College (SMC), a two-year community college offering a number of undergraduate programs.
