Temecula Wine country is Southern California’s underappreciated gem. This beautiful, historic area features dozens of wineries growing everything from Aglianico to Zinfandel, producing a mix of varietals that would make any vintner jealous.

A lot of things have changed in Temecula since the first vineyard was founded in 1968, but one winery that has held tight to its history is Mount Palomar Winery on Rancho California Road. The second oldest vineyard and winery to open in Temecula, it still maintains many original buildings and vines, including the original barrel room. This underground sanctuary has been opened to the general public as the winery’s tasting room, creating Temecula’s oldest tasting cave.

Mount Palomar Winery opened the oldest outdoor Sherry Solera in the United States in the 1970’s, and still produces their award winning Solera Cream Sherry in the traditional Spanish method – slowly caramelizing in the sun for a rich, complex flavor that wins new awards with every new bottling.

Each new winemaker at Mount Palomar has honored the winery’s long traditions in their own way: by planting the only Cortese vines located in California, creating new signature wine blends, and expanding the original vineyards to a 55 acre planting with dozens of varietals. The newly established onsite restaurant, Annata Bistro/Bar, broke new ground with one of Temecula wine country’s few full service bars, offering day long happy hour specials and unforgettable desserts created by Chef Kevin Cahalan. The bistro is open daily for lunch, offering delectable American fusion dishes for hungry wine lovers and cocktail lovers alike.

The winery’s history is reflected in the grounds rustic, old world feel and beautiful plantings. Classic statuary is scattered across the property, along with flowers that bloom year round and fountains. Following the grand staircase from the tasting room patio to the event area, you will be surrounded by magnolia trees and street lamps, leading to an archway of climbing roses connecting the reception area to the wedding ceremony center. This vine surrounded walkway is set on the highest point in Temecula wine country, giving wedding couples and their guests a stunning view while they take their vows. These beautiful event grounds and the winery’s top shelf service have earned Mount Palomar Winery a place in The Knot’s Wedding Hall of Fame, as well as multiple Couple’s Choice Awards from WeddingWire.com.
